Our Last Day in the Wild! Today was the last day of paddling and camping, and a finale for our experiences in the Big Bend wilderness. We started the day fresh and early, promptly waking around sunrise and packing our sleeping bags and dry bags up. Natalie and Ira went up to the kitchen set up to get a filling breakfast started for the long day of paddling ahead. The rest of us started on our tents and brought all our things down near the boats and the kitchen. Breakfast turned out to be a delicious preparation of scrambled eggs, sausage, and potato hash, with cheese and hot sauce offered as well. It was completely filling and absolutely delicious, and we all finished quickly. Andy and Khadijah cleaned up the cooking space while everyone else got to work packing the canoes. On Thursday, January 5th, our journey commenced to the Big Bend national park. While we were not going to arrive the same day to the park and would have to stay a night in a hotel in Del Rio, we were sure that they day would be fun. We began the day arriving at the school at 8:30 as usual, beginning our final preparations for the departure with making sure medicine was properly stored, and loading everything to the Post Oak activity bus. At around 9:20 the group started the multiple hour trip to San Antonio were we would plan to stop for lunch and site seeing. arriving just a little after the afternoon at 12:30, we stopped by a Tex-Mex restaurant called àcenar. After the delicious lunch we walked a block to the infamous Alamo where we stopped and learned about the history behind the missionary / fort.
