Day 1 - Blog
On Thursday, January 5th, our journey commenced to the Big Bend national park. While we were not going to arrive the same day to the park and would have to stay a night in a hotel in Del Rio, we were sure that they day would be fun.
We began the day arriving at the school at 8:30 as usual, beginning our final preparations for the departure with making sure medicine was properly stored, and loading everything to the Post Oak activity bus. At around 9:20 the group started the multiple hour trip to San Antonio were we would plan to stop for lunch and site seeing. arriving just a little after the afternoon at 12:30, we stopped by a Tex-Mex restaurant called àcenar. After the delicious lunch we walked a block to the infamous Alamo where we stopped and learned about the history behind the missionary / fort. Once we were done with the interesting site seeing we walked to a local ice cream shop where we all had a snack of sweet and tasty ice cream. After the snack we ventured through the San Antonio River Walk, a small river that runs through the city with beautiful scenery and restaurants over looking it. Later we walked back to the bus and continued our journey to our next destination, Del Rio.
By the time we had arrived at Del Rio night had come and we were started to wind down for the day. Arriving at the hotel we were going to stay the night at around 6:30, Mr. Roddy began the process of checking us in while the rest of us began to unload our luggage. Once we were checked in at our rooms and we had emptied the bus, we drove to a pizza restaurant called Lou’s Wood Fired Pizza where we ate a combination of pizzas and salads. Everyone finished the dinner satisfied and full after some delicious pizza. Overall the day finished with us feeling hopeful for the wonderful trip ahead of us and happy with how our day turned out.
